A letter From Our Founder
When I moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth area, food became the hardest thing.
Not shelter. Not work. Food. The thing that should have been simple.
I went to the grocery stores near me — the big chains, the ones everyone uses — and my food was not there. Not just hard to find. Simply absent. I would look aisle after aisle and find nothing I recognized, nothing my body knew, nothing that felt like what I grew up eating.
I started finding alternatives. Something close. Something that could pass. But close is not the same. And for someone who loves home-cooked meals, who finds real comfort in the food she grew up with, eating was genuinely difficult. American food is not my preference — and I refused to be ashamed of wanting my own food.
So I did what so many of us do. I begged. Every person traveling from Ghana, every Auntie visiting family, every church member making the trip back home — I would ask: “Please, can you bring me small?” 🙏🏾 Palm oil. Fufu powder. A spice. Shito. And I was not alone. Every Ghanaian I knew here was doing the same thing.
Then one day, I decided I was done with that.
NMA Foods began as my solution to my own problem. But the moment I started talking about it, I realized it was everyone’s problem. Every Ghanaian, every West African, every Diasporian navigating life in America, every person who missed the exact taste of home — not a version of it, not an approximation — the real thing.
I signed a distribution contract with Gold Coast Food, Herbs & Spices LTD — a trusted Ghanaian company producing Sankofa Natural Spices with health and quality at the center of everything they do. A brand I believe in completely. 🌿
Because accessibility is not enough on its own. It is also about trust. The concern about what is in our food — the dyes, the additives, the chemicals — is real. As a community, we deserve to know exactly what we are eating and feeding our families.
NMA Foods is my answer to all of it. Accessible. Affordable. Trustworthy. A one-stop shop where our community can find the staples of their kitchen, learn from each other, share tips, and grow together. 🇬🇭
This is personal. This is at my heart. And I want to build this with you — not just for you.
If you just moved here and you are figuring out where to find your food — this is for you.
If you have been here for years and are tired of compromising — this is for you.
If you have never tasted West African food but you are curious — this is for you too.
Welcome to NMA Foods. Welcome home. Welcome to the community. 🌿🇬🇭
